CADアプリは、手書きの製図と比較して、次のメリット・デメリットがあります。
＜メリット＞
正確性と精度:

3Dモデリング:
CADは3Dモデリング(製品によります)をサポートし、設計をリアルな視覚的表現にすることができます。これにより、プロトタイプの詳細な確認やテストが容易になります。
コラボレーション:
複数のデザイナーやエンジニアが同じプロジェクトで協力する場合、CADアプリはファイル共有やバージョン管理を容易に出来ます。
シミュレーションと解析:

CADアプリを利用するのか、手書き製図（フリーハンド含む）するのかは、求められる精度、コスト、時間等を考慮して選択する必要があります。
